Interest Generation

This year s marked for me by a distinct aversion to design sites. Journals, blogs, portfolios, I am indiscriminate: I have been turned off. I mentioned this, last October I believe, and it has not relented. I do try to get interested in the design world, but my passion has not been jump started just yet.

Can I turn this around next year?

I want to. I want to be excited about seeing new design work from around the world. I want to share these things on my own site, thereby promoting the work of others.

Most importantly, I want to remember why I design. I had a great time designing album covers in early 2009, and I also got the chance to work on a few really fun projects this year with other musicians and local business people. I published a book and put out two albums on Sidedown Audio Heck, one of my own projects was even published in a book by an international publishing company.

Something feels off though, internally. In my "soul" I suppose.

I really enjoy doing design work, but I hope that it is still possible for me to get fired up about the idea of design. I'm obviously more involved in music right now, but music doesn't pay the bills. I need design to do that, and I need to put some spirit behind everything I do in design so that I can make a living.

There are a few design projects on the horizon that I can't yet discuss, but hopefully these things will put me on the road to reengaging with design in an enjoyable way.
