A Year in Six Parts (Upcoming)
As the year-endtrospection continues here at Sidedown HQ, I've been thinking about what sort of projects I want to be involved with in 2010.
For various reasons I will be working on a lot of stuff next year that is not Sidedown related. I've also been wrestling with the idea of focus for... well, for my whole life, but more specifically the last year and a half. I'm imagining, hoping, that next year I'll be able to focus on my focus problem.
This year I didn't do a Sidedown Monograph, nor did I put out anything new for the holidays (aside from a limited-time run of the HEY Volume One compilation, but that wasn't specifically holiday-time oriented. I've been feeling more detached than ever, something I attribute in part to my time spent on the Internet. As I pull myself away from it (while still keeping up this site and a handful of others) I may be gaining the clarity I need.
I've decided that next year will be all about Sidedown Monograph #4. And in this time, it's going to be a true monograph, in that it will only be my work. Whether justly or unjustly, I'm really down on Web-based collaboration right now, and am finding that trying to coordinate these types of fruitless projects is diluting my interest and time spent doing personal work. I've had enough of that.
It is my hope that SDM4 will have a musical element. Other than this, I don't think there will be any other Sidedown products in 2010. This will take up a good portion of my time not spent on some new and important things taking shape. There will still be Sidedown Audio and Blindsided Books endeavors, to be certain, though they may stay at their low-frequency level for at least another year.
Of course, I have no idea what will actually take shape in 2010. But this is my goal: Sidedown Monograph #4, a series of six books, 175 pages long each, coming out every other month, starting in February.
We shall see.
